We are searching for a:
SENIOR ENGINEER – GROUND CONTROL
The Senior Engineer – Ground Control is part of the Mines/Mills Technical Support Department and provides ground control and rock mechanics engineering services and support to the mining operations in the Canadian Operations,managed through the central group in Copper Cliff. The role holder performs tasks with some supervision, set deadlines, responsibilities, and monitors and summarizes progress of the mining activities and rock mass response to mining. The role holder ensures health and safety standards are met, legislated requirements are satisfied, and strategies for improving safety and profitability of the mine are provided.
Accountabilities:
- To recommend actions to ensure the safety and stability of mine excavations are maintained with respect to geotechnical and legislated requirements.
- To provide technical support, advise and assist the mine operators and technical staff regarding ground control strategies and methods.
- To complete project work for future mining methods and sequencing for underground and/or surface deposits.
- To advise and assist in instrumentation selection and use for microseismic and ground movement monitoring.
- To provide guidance on the services provided by ground control engineers, mining engineers and/or mine technologists.
- To participate in collateral working relationships with Senior Engineers / Specialists – Ground Control, Chief Mine Engineer – Ground Control and others as required.
- To provide on-call duties if required for technical assistance with ground stability issues.
Education:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A degree in a related field.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years ground control and underground mining experience required.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Geomechanical numerical modeling, micro seismic and ground control instrumentation knowledge would be an asset.
